What is Myofascial Release/Structural Integration?

Fascia is the organ of form, it is a three-dimensional continuous
web of tissue that extends from head to toe, front to back, and
interior to exterior. The primary goal of Myofascial
Release/Structural Integration (SI), is to restore the body to its
most efficient state of alignment and balance by locating fascial
adhesions and removing them.

Why is Stuctural Integration Important?

When misalignment exists the horse's body must make
compensations in order to keep itself balanced, causing changes
to occur in the soft tissue, specifically the myofascial system. This
requires that the horse use its body inefficiently.

Alignment and balance are dynamic, adaptive and constantly in
flux, not static and fixed.

Unhealthy movement patterns, physical injuries, conformation,
environmental restrictions, and ill-fitting equipment can bring one
structure out of alignment. Over time the body will shorten and
tighten to accommodate stresses creating stiffness, pain, fatigue
and lack of well being.

What is a typical Myofascial Release/Structural Integration Session like?

Structural Integration is typically preformed in a series of sessions to
systematically release the myofascial tissue. Each session builds upon the
last. The series is designed to balance the horse's body in segments, each
session addressing a different aspect of its structure and movement.

What are the benefits?

Myofascial release works to remove adhesions, allowing the body to move
more efficiently.

A body that is aligned and balanced in gravity moves with more ease, fluidity,
efficiency and grace.
